Files in the right place. Progress kept safe.
Choose storage the PS5 can play from, keep downloads moving and understand the code inside a boxed copy. Installation is a job you can plan.
Running out of playable space?
Inspect installations separately from saves. Console storage and compatible M.2 can run PS5 games; USB holds their files for later copying.

Open the guide ↗Three separate things to check
Game files take storage space. Saved data preserves progress. A licence authorises access. Deleting an installation, replacing a console and redeeming a boxed code affect different parts of that arrangement. Start with the part you need to change.
PS5 games run from console storage or a compatible M.2 SSD. USB extended storage can hold their game files for copying back. Budget playable space at the intended destination, using the requirement shown by the actual download.
Make the overnight job explicit
An automatic download selection tells the console which files to fetch. Staying connected in rest mode lets that work continue. Automatic update installation is a separate setting and can affect a suspended session. Save before relying on unattended installation.
The announced boxed edition contains a download code. Delivery of the box, redemption of the code, completion of the download and the release countdown are separate milestones. Check the retailer’s terms and the owning account rather than treating any one of them as proof the game is ready.
